3/14 marks National Pi Day in the United States and around the world. The holiday commemorates a timeless symbol beloved by many in mathematical and scientific communities, while making the most of the opportunities it allows for humorous wordplay, dessert and "teachable moments". Bridges Academy students participated in Pie Day with several entertaining math activities using the number dubbed as "Pie" 3.14, to engage in mathematical investigations. Students used Pie to calculate the area of circles and compare diameter of circles and spheres. We also used Pie to figure out the exact way to cut real pies perfectly evenly for equal enjoyment of all students. Join us next year for more Pie Day activities and mathematical investigations.
