MIDDLE SCHOOL ART: BEGINNING ART

( 7TH and 8TH GRADERS)

The beginning art class is an overview course designed to allow each first year art student to explore a variety of media, techniques and methods. Projects focus on introducing and developing the elements of art (line, form, color, value, texture) and principles of design (balance, variety, harmony, emphasis). Understanding and appreciation of self and others through art history, culture, and heritage is emphasized. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects are produced. Students learn how to write a proper artist statement to accompany their work for display.  Teacher directed written reflection of project planning, process, growth and development is practiced. Student work is entered into local school art shows, FMSD Art Faire, California Art Education Association Youth Art Month Show, Middle School Showcase of FMSD, Santa Clara County Office of Education Young Artist Showcase and other local and online opportunities.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ART: ADVANCED ART

(2ND YEAR ART STUDENTS unless student  has been accepted by portfolio review from art teacher).

This course emphasizes artists and art history as inspirations for art projects. The 8th graders will create two and three dimensional pieces that further develop the elements of art and principles of design. The understanding and appreciation of self and others through art is a focus of the class.

Students will have the opportunity to make personal choices about the creation of their art. Student work is entered into local school art show, FMSD Art Fair, California Art Education Association Youth Art Month Show, Middle School Showcase of FMSD, Santa Clara County Office of Education Young Artist Showcase and other local and online opportunities.
